What pops into your head when you hear “PR”? If it’s parties, high heels and air kisses, you’re in for a big surprise. While you may see the LBPR team running around town in suits and stilettos, behind the scenes we’re all about embracing our inner geek.

Working in the arts isn’t always glamorous, but it is exciting. From social media to shooting and editing promotional videos, to blogging for clients and updating their Web sites, we’re online, all the time. The new PR requires brains, high-speed Internet and a willingness to embrace new technology. LBPR has been using various Internet channels to promote its clients for three years. And, as always, we have the writing skills to send out targeted messages and the contacts necessary to achieve a client’s goals.

The Children’s Museum of Houston is devoting the month of August to encouraging the next generation of geeks. (Don’t take offense—geek is the new jock!) During MindFest WonderWeek Aug. 6-12, kids can let out their inner smarty pants as they fuse technology, art and science through engineering activities such as making a spirograph design with a bicycle chain and gears. How People Make Things WonderWeek from Aug. 13-19 is inspired by the manufacturing segments on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” Activities include making your own paper. Finally, Great Geek WonderWeek Aug. 20-26 teaches kids about Newton’s first and third laws of motion as they construct their own rocket or bridge. To find out more about fun activities at the Children’s Museum, visit www.cmhouston.org.

Re: We're online, all the time

PR is such a multifaceted industry, especially nowadays. It's so important for organizations to be able to reach their public effectively, and the majority of that contact takes place online. It pays to be a geek!

Geeks rule! And, being one DOES pay. It seems that technological savvy is one of the most important qualities a job candidate can have in lots of industries these days.
